Local recording, remote clarity: choosing what lives where

A practical guide to on-device processing, remote viewing and retention planning.

Organized receiving area with shelves and a loading entrance in natural daylight.

Start where the video starts

Cameras generate a continuous stream of data. Recording and AI processing on-site lets you keep the high-quality video near the cameras and use compatible hardware you already own.

Make remote viewing deliberate

Authorized remote viewing should use an authenticated application and a secure outbound connection. The site’s recorder should not need publicly opened inbound ports. Connectivity is still required to reach the site remotely.

Separate retention from access

Being able to watch remotely is not the same as having an offsite backup. Define how long recordings stay on-device, what is copied offsite, which stream quality is retained and how restoration is tested.

Plan a 30-day cloud tier

The 4cecam roadmap includes a 30-day cloud playback tier alongside local high-resolution recordings. Availability, retention, bandwidth and storage requirements must be agreed for the deployment; it is not included in the current pilot.

Pilot before expanding

Validate camera streams, recording continuity, processing performance and access controls at one location. Then make the deployment repeatable. Add integrations and sites after the foundation is proven.
